How Staub Cast Iron Is Made
Crafted over several days, each piece passes through more than thirty pairs of hands. Cast from premium iron and finished with multiple layers of durable, non-toxic enamel, it is built to perform and to last for generations.

The Mold Takes Shape
A custom aluminum master mold is hand-made for each piece, then used to form the single-use sand molds.

Raw Materials, Refined
Raw iron, recycled cast iron and coke are melted together at extreme heat to create the molten metal.

Individually Cast
The molten iron is poured into single-use sand molds, so every piece is cast on its own for a consistent result.

The Big Reveal
Once cooled, the sand mold is broken away to release the raw casting in its first finished shape.

Trimmed to Perfection
Excess iron is removed from the rim and edges to refine the silhouette and ready it for finishing.

Blast Cleaned
Pressurized air strips away any remaining sand and debris, leaving a clean surface for enameling.

Smoothed by Hand
The piece is ground by hand to remove burrs and refine the surface for a smooth, durable finish.

Quality Comes First
Every piece is inspected against our standard, and only those that pass move on to the next stage.

Signature Black Interior
Pieces are hung in batches and coated with matte black enamel, creating the textured surface that encourages browning.

Layers of Lasting Beauty
More enamel layers, including the exterior color, are fused to the iron. The coating is food safe, needs no seasoning and resists rust.

Fired at High Heat
Each piece is baked at over 800C to bond the enamel permanently to the iron.

The Finishing Touches
The knob, ribbon and final details are added by hand before each piece is carefully packaged.
